Why Did God choose the Jewish People?

People, including the Jewish people, have long sought to understand the rationale behind God's selection of the Jewish people as His chosen ones. Why did God not choose a more powerful nation during that time, especially considering the Jews' status as slaves in Egypt? The perplexity lies in God's choice of a people who, since their liberation from Egypt, have posed challenges and ultimately caused God considerable pain and distress. The Jewish people depicted in the numerous verses, however, do not encompass the entirety of the Jewish population. Similar to other Scriptures, the individuals mentioned solely represent a specific generation, namely, the generation of Jews who were liberated from Egyptian enslavement. Nevertheless, the Jewish people, as a collective, were designated as God’s chosen people long before this generation.

9 “I have seen these people,”

the Lord said to Moses, “And they are a stiff-necked people.

Regrettably, I have encountered instances where specific individuals, as well as Pastors, have cited particular scriptures as a basis for their aversion or disparagement of the Jewish people. This is where Anti-Semitism begins. Always be watchful.

"For forty years, I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are people whose hearts go astray, and they do not know my ways.’ Psalm 95:10

God delivered the Israelites from Egypt and led them through the wilderness. It is essential to note that the Jews were not chosen due to their righteousness, uniqueness, or special characteristics. Therefore, the qualities mentioned in Psalm 95:10 hold no relevance in this context. The fact is that the Israelites themselves were not the reason for God's selection of them as a nation; their selection was not of their own doing.

It was the righteousness of Abraham that led to the Israelites being chosen as God's people.

God's choice was driven by His affection for Abraham and His commitment to him. God pledged to bless Abraham and bring forth a people through his descendants, Isaac and Jacob. Additionally, God promised to bestow upon this people a portion of land as an eternal possession. It was due to this promise to Abraham that the Jewish people were singled out as God's chosen people.

Genesis 17  - 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2 Then I will make my covenant between you and me and will greatly increase your numbers.” 3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8 The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”

Many have overlooked this particular issue, perhaps due to a lack of comprehensive explanation within religious institutions. That is why revisiting the beginning will be enlightening.
